DENTAL DIRECTOR. PROFESSOR, NYU COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY

Dr. Richard Niederman, DMD

Dr. Richard Niederman is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Health Promotion at the New York University College of Dentistry, and former department chair. He is a CariedAway™ and NYU World Health Organization Collaborating Center founder, and a co-author of the textbook Evidence-Based Dentistry.

Rick graduated magna cum laude from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he also received his periodontal specialty training. He received certificate training in Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford University, and worked in Brazil as a Fulbright Senior Specialist.

He began his clinical work at the Boston VA Medical Center. Following specialty training he collaborated on the development of periodontal disease models in knock-out mice, and human periodontal DNA diagnostics, and therapeutics using tetracycline fibers, beta-glucans, and GORE-TEX Periodontal Material. After the 2000 Surgeon General’s Report on oral health, Rick shifted his focus to implementing effective caries prevention programs locally, nationally, and globally.

Audrey Johnston, MHA, RDH

Audrey is a registered dental hygienist with over 20 years of experience. She is known for her compassionate and empathetic approach and is committed to making each child’s dental visit a positive, comfortable, and educational experience.

Audrey obtained her Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene from New Hampshire Technical Institute, developing a strong foundation in dental science, preventive care, and patient education. To advance her knowledge of health policy, law, and ethics, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management and Master of Science in Health Administration from the University of St. Francis.

As a mom herself, Audrey believes that good oral health is essential for a child’s happiness, well-being, and success. She joined the CariedAway team because she is dedicated to making dental care accessible for every family.
